Gas grill hose safety

What to check before you buy, install, or use a hose.

Grill Hose is an independent compatibility reference, not an installation service. Incorrect, damaged, leaking, or improperly installed gas parts can cause fire, explosion, burns, or carbon-monoxide poisoning.

If you smell gas

Do not light the grill. Shut off the gas supply if it is safe to do so, keep flames and ignition sources away, move people from the area, and follow the grill manufacturer's emergency instructions. Do not use the grill until the cause has been found and corrected.

Before buying

Identify the appliance, not just the connector.

  • Confirm the exact model or serial number.
  • Confirm propane/LP versus natural gas.
  • Check the manufacturer's schematic and fit statement.
  • Match the regulator, pressure, fittings, hose routing, and length.
  • Customer ratings do not prove that a part fits or is safe for your grill.
  • Never force a fitting or choose by appearance alone.
Before installing

Stop if the instructions or fit are unclear.

  • Follow both the grill and replacement-part manufacturer instructions.
  • Do not use a replacement hose to convert between propane and natural gas.
  • Keep hoses away from hot surfaces, sharp bends, abrasion, and grease paths.
  • Use a qualified gas-appliance professional when the manufacturer calls for one or whenever you are unsure.
  • Do not modify valves, regulators, or gas parts unless the appliance manufacturer provides the exact approved procedure and parts.
Before every use

Inspect and leak-check.

  • Check hoses for brittleness, cracks, holes, abrasion, animal damage, and loose fittings.
  • Leak-test connections exactly as the manufacturer instructs after reconnecting the fuel supply.
  • Never test for gas leaks with a match, lighter, or open flame.
  • Do not operate a grill with a suspected or confirmed leak.
While grilling

Outdoor use only.

  • Never use a gas grill indoors, in a garage, or beneath a combustible enclosure.
  • Keep the grill away from siding, rails, eaves, and branches.
  • Keep children and pets outside the grill's safety zone.
  • Open the lid before lighting and never leave the grill unattended.
